Women Peace Cup 2026: Honouring Mothers Through Sport, Unity, and Peace
On Sunday, 10th May 2026, the spirit of unity, empowerment, and community came alive at Gatina Primary School during the Mothers Day Women Peace Cup 2026 — a remarkable event organized by Community Relations Foundation KE in partnership with the Gakami Mustard Seed Foundation.
More than just a football tournament, the Women Peace Cup stood as a powerful movement dedicated to celebrating women, promoting peace, and creating opportunities for women in our communities to come together through sport.
A Celebration of Women and Community
The tournament brought together women from different wards and football teams across Dagoretti North, showcasing not only athletic talent but also resilience, leadership, and solidarity. Participating teams included:
- Kilimani Ward
- Kawangware Ward
- Gatina Ward
- Kileleshwa Ward
- Kabiro Ward
- GMSF Women FC
- CNN Women FC
The event created a platform where women from diverse backgrounds could connect, compete, and inspire one another while spreading a strong message of peace and inclusion within the community.
Inspiring Leadership and Support

The event was honored by the presence of H.E. Dr. Joyce Kithure, whose message of empowerment and peace inspired participants and attendees alike. Her support reinforced the importance of uplifting women and investing in community-driven initiatives that foster social cohesion.
Special appreciation also goes to Dr. Margaret Gakami of the Gakami Mustard Seed Foundation and Ambassador Tegla Loroupe of the Tegla Loroupe Foundation for their vision, dedication, and commitment to empowering women through impactful community programs.
Their leadership helped transform the Women Peace Cup into more than a sporting event — it became a platform for hope, visibility, and positive change for women living in informal settlements and underserved communities.
More Than a Tournament
Throughout the day, the atmosphere was filled with excitement, teamwork, and celebration. Supporters, volunteers, and community members gathered to witness women stepping confidently onto the field, not only to compete, but to stand for something greater.
The Women Peace Cup highlighted how sport can become a unifying force — breaking barriers, strengthening relationships, and encouraging dialogue around peace, equality, and empowerment.
Every match played carried a deeper message:
- Unity over division
- Empowerment over limitation
- Community over isolation
A Historic Grand Finale
The grand finale of the tournament marked the culmination of weeks of preparation, dedication, and passion. Participants demonstrated incredible determination and sportsmanship, reminding everyone present that women continue to play a vital role in shaping stronger and more peaceful communities.
As the tournament concluded, one thing became clear — this was not simply the end of an event, but the continuation of a growing movement focused on empowering women through action, opportunity, and collective purpose.
Looking Ahead
Community Relations Foundation KE and its partners continue to champion initiatives that promote peacebuilding, women empowerment, youth engagement, and community development across Kenya.
The success of the Mothers Day Women Peace Cup 2026 serves as a powerful reminder that when communities come together with purpose, meaningful change becomes possible.
To every participant, volunteer, organizer, supporter, and partner:
Thank you for making history together.
